How to Build an Award-Winning Company Culture

Values

Every successful culture starts with establishing what your company stands for. At its heart, company culture is about values. Spend time thinking about what your company stands for and what kind of experience you want employees to have. A good place to start is to look at developing a mission statement, company vision, and core values.

  • Mission Statement: What does your company stand for? Show the world and your employees what impact your business wants to have.
  • Company Vision: What does your company want to achieve? Show what your company wants to achieve and motivate employees to join you on that journey.
  • Core Values: What values will you live and work by in your company? These are the values that you and your employees believe in.

Employee input

Company culture is about your whole team getting on the same page and going in the same direction. For that reason, it’s vitally important to get input from your employees and other leaders of the company. Get their input about where you can improve in your company culture to give them a better experience as employees. Some questions you could ask:

  • Do you feel your leaders listen to you?
  • Are you satisfied with your job?
  • Do you feel working here helps you achieve your personal and career goals?
  • If you could improve one thing about the company, what would it be?

Get you team on board

After you get input from your employees and team, it’s time to implement the culture. Make the changes that you feel necessary. If you say your company believes in certain values, live them. Get your team to buy into the changes needed to implement culture. If you have listened to your employees, your revamped culture will give your employees new purpose and motivation.

Hire for culture fit

Once you have established a culture, add talent to your team that are a fit for that culture. When you build teams based on culture fit, that culture becomes even stronger and established. As your culture develops, you will see that top candidates choose your company over other offers based solely on your great culture.
