5 Keys to Keeping Your Culture Intact in the Remote Workplace

Remote work is the new normal. As you strive to keep your team efficient and producing, your culture plays a big part. With your employees spread apart and working from their individual homes, it’s a challenge to keep your culture strong and thriving. In a physical workplace, interactions are more natural and team-building activities are easier to plan. With 2021 looking likely to be another year working from home, you need to double down on your efforts to keep your culture intact. Use these 5 tips to keep your culture intact in the remote workplace.

Focus on company mission

Keep your employees focused on the bigger picture. You have carefully cultivated a strong culture based on your company mission and hired your employees with that mission and culture fit in mind. When your team members are all on the same page with the same goal in mind, that brings unity. What does your company believe in? If your employees are able to believe in the core values and mission of the company, your culture will thrive.

Team huddles

The next tip is team huddles. Team huddles allow for interactions between employees when maybe they wouldn’t normally interact. They also serve as a way to implement company traditions or celebrate wins. The huddles are a great way to make sure that everyone is on the same page and will help your employees feel listened to and valued.

Communicate

Culture in the remote workplace is fragile. Open lines of communication with your team. It’s valuable to use communication tools like Slack or Microsoft Teams so that every member is easily accessible. Communication helps relationships prosper in your team and culture is all about relationships. When a member of the team encounters obstacles, if they know they can easily get help, productivity will increase.

Inclusivity

Working from home and being separated from the team effects each employee differently. Some feel valued and productive on their own. Others need more TLC and a hands-on approach from their leaders. Be proactive in making every employee feel included and a valued member of the team.

Replicate office perks

Finally, every office has certain perks that make it a great place to be. Do your best to replicate those perks in the remote work place. For example, if you have donuts in the office once a month, give your employees gift cards to your favorite donut place so they can keep their tradition going on their own. This can apply to any other perks you have in the office. Even small gestures can make a huge difference to your employees.
