Auditor Job Description
An Internal Auditor in Utah plans and executes audit engagements across the organization: evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls, identifying risk areas, and providing recommendations to improve processes and governance. They work independently of the accounting team, reporting to the Audit Committee or CFO. The role requires a combination of accounting knowledge, risk assessment skills, and the ability to communicate findings diplomatically to business leaders who may not want to hear them.

What to Look For in a Utah Auditor
- CPA or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) preferred
- 2 to 6 years of audit experience, public accounting or internal audit
- Risk assessment and control evaluation skills
- SOX compliance experience for public company roles
- Strong written communication. Audit reports must be clear and actionable.

An Internal Auditor is an employee who provides ongoing independent assurance within the organization. An External Auditor is a CPA firm hired to provide an independent audit opinion on the financial statements. Many internal auditors come from external audit backgrounds. It is a common and well-worn career path.
Preferred but not required. The CIA is the professional credential for internal auditors. A CPA with public accounting experience is equally valued. For SOX-focused roles in public companies, SOX testing experience is more important than the specific credential.
